The Vertical Ray of the Sun

Little to say about this one: I grooved on its beautiful imagery and its aimless inertia, and I was surprised how relaxed such an exquisitely filmed movie could be. What plot there was confused me - I couldn’t tell apart three sisters, nor could I tell apart the men in their lives - but once I stopped looking at the grand scheme and watching the cute, slight vignettes, I enjoyed myself. I can’t say I’d recommend it to moviegoers who enjoy those oh so minor aspects of film like narrative and character development; it’s more like two hours in the photography wing of a lovely Vietnamese art museum.
